Our Work

What we do

Healthy Communities

Healthy Communities

We support action that improves public health in informal settlements, with particular attention to sanitation, hygiene, clean household practices, air quality, water safety, respiratory health, maternal and child wellbeing, and mental health awareness. Our work is designed to reflect the realities of daily living in high-density, underserved neighbourhoods.

Activities

  • Community outreach on respiratory, water and sanitation risks
  • Behaviour change communication and local health literacy
  • Referral pathways and community-facing awareness campaigns

Safer Homes and Neighbourhoods

Safer Homes and Neighbourhoods

We advocate and work toward better living conditions through settlement mapping, risk identification, neighbourhood-level improvement priorities, and support for practical environmental changes that make homes and public spaces healthier and safer. This includes attention to waste, drainage, flooding, heat exposure, ventilation, and housing-related risks.

Activities

  • Participatory mapping of risks and assets
  • Neighbourhood priorities for waste, drainage and safer environments
  • Advocacy for healthier settlement upgrading

Livelihoods and Local Enterprise

Livelihoods and Local Enterprise

Health and housing cannot be separated from income and opportunity. We therefore promote training, skills development and community enterprise pathways, including ideas such as waste-to-wealth, local environmental entrepreneurship, and practical links between community improvement and household income generation.

Activities

  • Skills training for women and young people
  • Waste-to-wealth and circular economy pilots
  • Mentorship and links to enterprise support pathways

Climate Resilience and Environmental Action

Climate Resilience and Environmental Action

Climate stress is already reshaping life in informal settlements through heat, flooding, polluted air, damaged infrastructure and broader insecurity. SlumPACT supports locally relevant adaptation measures, community awareness, and practical action that can help reduce vulnerability and build resilience.

Activities

  • Heat and flood risk awareness
  • Community-based adaptation planning
  • Locally appropriate environmental mitigation actions

Data, Innovation and Youth Leadership

Data, Innovation and Youth Leadership

We want communities and young people to participate in innovation, not simply receive it. Through research, digital tools, local data, hackathon-style engagement and collaborative problem solving, we support low-cost, context-sensitive solutions that can be tested in real-world settings.

Activities

  • Student innovation challenges
  • Low-cost digital monitoring tools
  • Dashboards, storytelling and accessible evidence products

Where we work

Location Map

South-West of Nigeria

The current programme logic draws especially on the Lagos-Ogun-Oyo corridor, where rapid urban growth, migration and housing pressure are accelerating the expansion of informal settlements.

The SlumPACT Nigeria concept identifies early focal areas in Ogun State, including Mowe and Ibafo along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, and in Oyo State, including Akinyele and Ibadan North. These areas illustrate the wider challenge facing many growing settlements at the edge of large: urban centres rising population density without matching improvements in infrastructure, environmental services and healthy living conditions.
